Volkswagen has more electronic modules per vehicle than almost any mainstream brand. A modern VW Golf, Passat, Tiguan, Atlas or Touareg runs 30–60 control units on a CAN / LIN / FlexRay / Ethernet network, all coordinated through the central gateway (J533). When something goes wrong, generic OBD-II scanners read a misleading fault code, the dealer quotes you four figures for “module replacement”, and most independent shops decline the job entirely.
