Another Audi All Keys Lost (AKL) job completed by Vancouver Key Rescue. This time, we worked on a 2016 Audi A6 C7 that had lost all its keys.
Unlike adding a spare key when a working key is available, an AKL situation on this Audi platform requires several stages of immobilizer data acquisition. The BCM2, electronic steering lock (ELV), and engine control unit (ECU) are involved in the process. In addition, synchronization data must be obtained to complete the key adaptation correctly.

BCM2 — Immo Data Acquisition
The first step was accessing the BCM2 module, located behind the trim on the right-hand side of the trunk.
We accessed the module, read the required data, and saved the information for the subsequent key programming procedure.

ELV — Electronic Steering Lock

The next stage involved the electronic steering lock (ELV), mounted on the steering column.
Accessing this module required removing the steering column and extracting the ELV unit. We then read and saved the required data for the immobilizer procedure.
ECU — Engine Control Unit EDC17CP44

The next module was the engine control unit (ECU), located under the hood on the driver’s side.
We obtained and saved the necessary ECU data as part of the overall Audi A6 C7 all-keys-lost procedure.
After completing the data acquisition, the removed components were reinstalled.

Audi A6 C7 — Synchronization Data and the SAFE Message
Reading the data from the BCM2, ELV, and ECU is not the final step in this procedure.

On this Audi A6 C7, additional synchronization data is required to complete the key adaptation correctly. Without the necessary synchronization, the new key may switch the ignition on and off, but the instrument cluster can display the SAFE message, and the engine will not start.

We obtained the required synchronization data from the vehicle and completed the key programming procedure.
This stage is particularly important when performing Audi A6 C7 AKL service because successful ignition operation alone does not confirm that the immobilizer authorization and engine-start functions are working correctly.
Final Result — Working Audi Key

After completing the required data acquisition and synchronization, we programmed the new key and restored the vehicle’s key functionality.
