Another successful BMW All Keys Lost (AKL) job completed by Vancouver Key Rescue. This time, we worked on a 2016 BMW 328i F30 after the owner lost all keys to the vehicle. On this BMW platform, key information is managed by the FEM (Front Electronic Module). When all keys are lost, restoring access requires more than simply programming a replacement key. The FEM must be accessed and prepared for programming, and additional security data may be required to complete the procedure.

FEM Module — Bench Programming
The first stage involved removing the FEM module from the vehicle.
We performed the necessary electronic work in bench mode, read the required data, and prepared the module for the key programming procedure.

DME — Reading the ISN
When no working key is available, the vehicle’s ISN (Individual Serial Number), a security component used by the engine management and immobilizer systems, may also be required.
For this BMW, the engine control unit was a Bosch MEVD17.2.G DME.
We accessed the DME in bench mode and read the necessary information to support the key programming process.
BMW Key Programming and Final Assembly
After obtaining the required data from the FEM and DME, we proceeded with programming the replacement key.
Once programming was completed, the modules were reinstalled, and the vehicle was checked to confirm the result.

The new key was successfully programmed, restoring access to the BMW 328i.
