A returning customer from Surrey, BC contacted us with an improperly functioning instrument cluster from a Volkswagen Tiguan 2015. The cluster had been previously worked on, but the issues were not resolved.
The main problems included:
— no backlight illumination
— fuel level gauge not working
— driving range calculation disabled
— multiple incorrect or missing indicators
After a thorough diagnosis, we confirmed that the hardware and circuit board were fully functional. The root cause of the failure was related to corrupted software.
This instrument cluster is based on an NEC850 MCU with a 24C64 EEPROM. In such cases, simply flashing a donor dump is not possible — doing so often results in a completely locked (“bricked”) cluster.
Using advanced programming techniques, firmware correction, and precise data reconstruction, we successfully restored the cluster. During the process we:
• preserved the original HW and SW versions
• restored all coding and adaptations
• fixed fuel level indication and range calculation
• fully recovered backlighting and display functions
The instrument cluster was fully restored without replacement or installation of a used unit.
