A client contacted us regarding a 2017 Audi Q5 (8R generation) in Surrey — all keys lost, vehicle locked, no spare anywhere, no possibility of starting the engine. After reviewing the VIN and pulling the BCM2 part number (a variant in the 8R0907064 family), it became clear this was not a routine all-keys-lost job. The vehicle was equipped with a locked BCM2 type 0711 — the most challenging immobilizer variant in the entire VAG group.
What is the BCM2 — and why is “0711” different?
The BCM2 (Body Control Module 2 / Body Comfort Module) is the master immobilizer unit on Audi vehicles built on the IMMO5 platform from approximately 2008 onward. It manages access to the vehicle, validates the keys against a stored cryptographic component-security (CS) value, and controls the electronic steering column lock (ELV). The same BCM2 architecture is used across:
- Audi A4 / S4 / RS4 / A4 Allroad (B8 / 8K) — 2008–2016
- Audi A5 / S5 / RS5 (8T / 8F) — 2008–2016
- Audi Q5 / SQ5 (8R) — 2008–2017
- Audi A6 / S6 / RS6 / A6 Allroad (C7 / 4G) — 2011–2018
- Audi A7 / S7 / RS7 (4G8) — up to 2018
- Audi A8 / S8 (D4 / 4H) — up to 2019
- Audi R8 (Type 4S)

Around 2013, all BCM2 modules became factory-locked — meaning the processor’s data could no longer be read, and all-keys-lost programming was, for years, simply not possible on any tool worldwide. The infamous 0711 variant was the most stubborn of all: even adding a key with an existing working key was blocked at the firmware level.
For most independent locksmiths and even many dealers, a 0711-equipped Audi Q5 with all keys lost was a tow-to-dealership-with-BCM2-replacement job — typically CAD $2,500–$4,500+ including new module, new keys, programming, and labour. And the dealer’s own process is not always smooth, since it requires online VIN-locked synchro data plus authorized GeKo access.
