A customer from Surrey and Vancouver, British Columbia contacted us regarding a Nissan Murano 2018 with all keys lost.
This model is equipped with a Smart Key (push-to-start system), requiring advanced diagnostic tools and expertise in carkeylocksmith services and Nissan immobilizer systems.
Why “all keys lost” is the hardest job in automotive locksmithing
When you still have one working key, programming a spare is straightforward — most Intelligent Keys can be added through a simple OBD-II procedure with the original present. All-keys-lost is a different problem entirely.
On a 2018 Nissan Murano (and every other Nissan with the NATS-5 anti-theft system — Altima, Rogue, Pathfinder, Sentra, Maxima, Frontier, Titan, Armada, Leaf, 370Z), the immobilizer is hard-coded to refuse engine start unless an authorized transponder is present. With every key gone, none of the standard procedures work, because:
- There is no original key to “teach” the new one from
- The push-to-start button will not even wake the BCM without a recognized fob
- The factory PIN code needed to enter programming mode is not printed anywhere on the vehicle and is not in the owner’s manual
- Nissan’s online VIN-to-PIN service is restricted to authorized dealers in North America
To program a new Intelligent Key from zero, the locksmith must extract the 4-digit BCM PIN code directly from the Body Control Module (BCM) using a seed-key authentication exchange — and only then can the immobilizer accept new keys. Then the new fobs need to be synchronized to the IMMU (immobilizer unit), have their rolling-code remotes paired, and the emergency blade cut to match the door lock cylinder so you can still unlock the vehicle if the fob battery dies.
This requires the right equipment, the right software, and a technician who has done the procedure many times. It is not a job for a $200 eBay clone tool.

⚙️ Work performed:
• Full diagnostics and confirmation of All Keys Lost Nissan Murano 2018
• Secure access to immobilizer system without working keys
• Generation and programming of a new Nissan Murano smart key
• Synchronization with vehicle modules
• Final testing: engine start, keyless entry, remote functions
All work was completed on-site in Surrey / Vancouver BC, eliminating the need for towing.
The vehicle was fully restored, and the client received a new fully functional key.
